INKTOBER DAY 18: CONTRAPTION
What if a living creature was actually a machine?
A snail has four antennae.
But what if those antennae were levers?
And what if a giant hand could move them, as if operating a strange machine?
Suddenly, we have a contraption.
But theres more.
Whos operating whom?
Is the hand tiny, controlling a normal snail? Or is the snail giant, operated by a normal hand?
The image doesnt tell us.
And thats the interesting part.
Sometimes, a visual metaphor works on more than one level.
You change what something is.
You change how it works.
And you make people question what theyre looking at.
Todays tip:
Dont just change an objects appearance.
Change its function, its relationship with something else, or even its scale.
One small disruption can open up a much bigger story.
